AVALON
YACHT CLUB HOUSE RULES
GUESTS
Members must accompany guests at all times unless previous arrangements have been
made with a Flag Officer or the House Committee. There is no guest fee unless
otherwise noted in the “Topsider” for a special event. All guests must be registered. The
same person or persons may not be a guest more than one weekend a month unless
special arrangements are made with the House Committee. These rules apply to all
members. Members are held fully responsible for their guests.
DRESS
Beginning on the day of Flag Raising and continuing through Labor Day, smart casual
dress is required after 6:00 PM for all members and guests unless otherwise noted. On
Saturday nights, it is recommended that gentlemen wear jackets in the dining room after
6:00 PM until 10:00 PM unless otherwise noted. On formal occasions, gentlemen are
required to wear jackets all evening. Smart casual dress for men shall include collared
shirts, dress trousers, dress shorts, shoes or dress sandals. Dress for women shall include
dresses, slacks, skirts, Capri pants or evening apparel. Tee shirts, cut-offs, jeans, sneakers
or non-dress sandals are not appropriate after 6:00 PM in the club. During the off-season
from the Friday after Labor Day until the Friday before Flag Raising, the smart dress
casual code will be relaxed to include non-collared shirts and jeans.
SERVING OF ALCOHOL
The AYC Management in their sole discretion reserves the right to limit or refuse service
of alcohol to any member or guest who exhibits signs of intoxication or conduct,
language or mannerisms which may be inappropriate in nature at any time. No alcohol of
any type may be brought or consumed at any time by anyone on the premises of AYC
without the express permission of the management having been obtained in advance.
Minors are not permitted at the bar in the Grill Room at any time. This section is
restricted for the use of adult members and guests.
MEMBER AND GUEST CONDUCT
The members and guests of the AYC are subject to strict adherence to commonly
accepted rules of polite language and conduct at all times on the premises of AYC. If at
any time a member or guest becomes loud, offensive, belligerent or antagonistic to any
other member, guest, server or any employee of AYC, then that member or guest shall be
required to leave the premises upon request. Any member may be required to appear
before the House Committee or Board of Trustees for further action which may include
temporary or permanent suspension of club privileges. Every member is responsible for
the conduct of their guests. Members and guests are also responsible for the activities and
conduct of all accompanying minors on the premises. This responsibility includes a duty
to supervise and control all accompanying minors in all areas of the club including the
parking lot, youth room, boating areas and docks, bulkheads and decks. The intention of
this guideline is to impose total parental responsibility upon the members and their guests
for accompanying minors’ actions and activities while on club premises.
GRILL ROOM
All members and guests are subject to availability of tables in the Grill Room and must
request a table through the hostess on duty at that time. The responsibility for seating
rests upon the hostess if there is one on duty at that time. Any violation of this rule may
result in either a delay in your eating or placement on the waiting list.
DINING ROOM RESERVATIONS
Dining Room reservations are strongly suggested and are generally required to reserve a
particular time for seating. Dining reservations will not be held for more than 15 minutes
past the designated time of the reservations. Members and their guests not adhering to
this rule forfeit their reservations and become subject to wait list availability.
GRIEVANCES
A grievance may be filed by any member of the Board of Trustees, management, member
or staff of the AYC against any member or guest who violate any of the rules of conduct
set forth herein. The grievance shall be written and delivered to a member of the House
Committee. The House Committee will decide whether or not to proceed with any
further action. In the event the House Committed decides to proceed, a copy of the
grievance will be served upon the member or guest who shall be given the opportunity to
present a written response. The House Committee will then in its sole discretion decide
whether or not to rule on the grievance or in the alternative to conduct a hearing with the
interested parties and render a decision. In the event that there is a ruling against the
grieving party, then a recommendation for further action will made to the AYC Board of
Trustees. The Board of Trustees may conduct a hearing or alternatively decide what
action will be taken by a majority vote. Any decision of the Board of Trustees will be
served upon the interested party and may include anyone of the following actions:
reprimand, temporary or permanent suspension of the club privileges, dismissal of the
grievance in whole or in part or any other action or sanction which may be deemed
appropriate by the Board of Trustees in its sole discretion.
SMOKING
The Avalon Yacht Club House is a smoke free facility. Smoking is also not permitted on
any of the decks. We ask that you use the appropriate receptacles.
PRIVATE PARTIES
Members may use the club facilities for private parties for a fee. Arrangements may be
made through the House Committee or the General Manager. The fee schedule is
available at the club office.
CELL PHONES
As a courtesy to fellow members, please refrain from the use of cell phones while dining.
DUES
Dues are payable on or before March 1st of each year, otherwise the member is
considered delinquent. Delinquent members’ names will be posted and such members
will be denied use of the club and its facilities until dues are paid in full. All members
are asked to carry their membership cards with them when on AYC property and be
ready to produce them upon request.
MINIMUM USAGE
The dining room minimum may be used for special events prior to Flag Raising. In 2007,
those designated events are Easter Sunday Brunch and Mother’s Day Brunch. In
addition, 50% of the entire minimum must be used by July 31st with the remaining
balance of 50% or less to be used by the Sunday before Labor Day. The minimum may
not be used in the Grill Room.
